A new breathtaking avant-garde competition is on world tour and everything is ready to host it in Monaco. By the will of the Union Internationale Motonautique - UIM, a sport challenge is now able to combine high technology with the highest values of sustainable water sporting. The E1 World Championship comes to life as the first full-electric race boats series. And the Principality of Monaco is about to welcome all teams for the whole weekend, the 27th and the 28th July 2024 together with a set of side events to raise awareness on ocean conservation.
In fact, the collateral E1 Blue Impact Championship initiative is addressed to make Championship teams acting as sustainability ambassadors in order to guide the audience's choices towards the protection of marine ecosystems.
Not by chance, each host city (Jeddah, Venice, Puerto Banús, Geneva, Monaco, Rotterdam and Hong Kong), are directly committed in promoting meetings, panels and workshops with the participation of eco-engaged partners, NGOs and scientists.
Rodi Basso, CEO and Co-Founder of this innovative race, highlighted: « E1 has environmental impact as part of its DNA. From its inception, we have balanced the need for speed with the needs of the planet ».
The competing nine teams are animated by the same green principles as well as the leading figures who lead them, including Will Smith, Tom Brady and Rafael Nadal.
E1 World Championship results itself from the synergy between Research & Development and High-Tech to find effective solutions to protect marine habitats.
The RaceBird, 100% electric single-seater, was designed just for this challenge. Its aerodynamics, that makes it look more like a space ship than a boat, allows the vessel to flow over the water thanks to two green hydrofoils which is inspired by Nature (birds' wings). This device lifts the boat up to one meter and allows to accelerate the speed.
A group of skilled engineers previously worked at McLaren and Ferrari, as well as NASA, joined the team led by Rodi Basso and Alejandro Agag, Chairman and Co-Founder of E1. It represents then the evolution of Formula E. According to Agag, E1 represents a further key step towards climat mitigation and the reduction of global warming. And the fact that Sport carries this environmentally friendly message is even more significant.
In the footsteps of Formula E, E1 supporters will be able to express their preferences on teams performances as for the Blue Impact Championship. At the end of each season, the Blue Impact Champion will be awarded, by adding the votes of the public (a third of the total) with those of a Technical Jury, made of distinguished scientist and conservationists. All that to reinforce E1's clean-tech main mission.
Professor Carlos M. Duarte, E1 Chief Scientist and E1 Blue Impact Champions Committee Chair, pointed out: « It is an exciting challenge for both us and the teams and provides a new and progressive arena in which to compete ».
