An International event dedicated to Green & Circular Economy and Sustainability is about to start. Ecomondo 2024, sponsored by Italian Exhibition Group, comes back to Rimini (Emilia-Romagna Region, Northern Italy) from the 5th to the 8th November 2024, as one of the most important trade fairs devoted to Ecology Transition in the Mediterranean region. Over 1,500 exhibitors from more than one hundred countries will attend this green hub, gathering key Italian and global companies and startups that invest in Sustainability. On this occasion, two new pavilions will be opened, covering over 150 thousand square meters to increase attendants by 7%, compared to last year. This 26th edition, in fact, is animated by about 280 representatives from industrial associations, government bodies, clusters, chambers of commerce, institutions from North Africa, sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, Europe and Eastern Europe. In addition, Ecomondo 2024 counts on special partnerships with the European Commission, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
Cutting-edge solutions for climate mitigation, waste recovery, soil and ecosystem regeneration, bio-energy, blue economy and sustainable water management will be presented to visitors, experts in the field and media through more than 200 thematic events. Moreover, the new frontiers of high-tech will be given renewed focus with regard to environmental monitoring systems based on artificial intelligence (A.I.), big data and satellite observation. Targeted business areas will allow more than 300 buyers to network within an environmentally friendly exhibition complex.
The Innovation District and the Start-Up & Scale-Up area will welcome nineteen emerging companies, unveiling pioneering solutions in different areas of the Green Economy, notably: waste management, circular bioeconomy, renewable energy sources and sustainable agriculture. The most innovative prize will be the Lorenzo Cagnoni Green Innovation Award.
Ecomondo 2024 will host the 12th edition of Stati Generali della Green Economy (General States of Green Economy), by the will of Fondazione Sviluppo Sostenibile and promoted by the Consiglio Nazionale (National Council) made of 66 organizations of green economy companies in Italy, in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Environment. This years' rendezvous, entitled "L'Economia di Domani" (The Economy of Tomorrow), will focus on decarbonised, circular and regenerative economy to tackle climate crisis while enabling social and environmental growth.
A set of eight Green Deal proposals will be presented to the Stati Generali sulla Green Economy (General States on the Green Economy) in Rimini addressing pivotal issues like: climate commitment, renewable growth, green buildings, electric cars and sustainable mobility, market for secondary materials, organic agriculture, and business involvement in support of the New Deal. The final outcome is intended to be submitted to the European Parliamentary groups and the renewed European Commission, as well as to the Italian Government and other Parliamentary representatives.
Corrado Peraboni, Managing Director of Italian Exhibition Group, organizer of Ecomondo, has recently pointed out the importance of exporting the "Made in Italy" technology innovation worlwide under the umbrella of Ecomondo, including promising markets. Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Italian Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, praised the role played by the Piano Nazionale Integrato Clima ed Energia (National Integrated Climate and Energy Plan) in promoting practical applications in terms of renewables withouth imposing unaffordable sacrifices on people and key productive sectors.
Edo Ronchi, President of the Fondazione per lo sviluppo Sostenibile (Foundation for Sustainable Development) recalled how the European Green Deal contributed to face two epochal challenges: climate crisis, which requires decarbonisation, and scarcity of natural resources, which calls for greater investments on circular economy and natural capital safeguarding.
Ecomondo 2024 reaffirms its eco-commitment in every detail including the event management in compliance with ISO standards. And the Fiera di Rimini (Rimini Exhibition Centre) is a model of low environmental impact structure equipped with innovative solutions for energy and water saving. The building complex was awarded the prestigious international ELCA 'Building with Green' Award held in Nuremberg (Germany). The district incorporates 160,000 square meters of green areas with over 1,500 plants and 30,000 square meters of grass fields. The pavilions are designed to take utmost advantage of natural lighting, being integrated by 850 LED projectors that guarantee an annual energy consumption reduction of 720,000 kWh.
Sustainable water management is another added value including the reuse of fountains water for garden irrigation and fresh water waste reduction systems. Finally, an integrated photovoltaic plant, serving Rimini and Vicenza's fair districts allows to generate 8.5 million kWh of clean energy, saving 4.5 million tons of CO2.
Furthermore, Ecomondo promotes concrete initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of the event and raise public awareness on Sustainable Development. The Event Planning Committee actively promotes awareness and training initiatives. The installation of a Trash Collection device to capture floating waste in the port of Rimini is one of the results achieved through collaboration with Water Defender Alliance, a body which develops socio-environmental projects to give people and companies the opportunity to generate a positive, science-based and concrete impact on the main challenges of our time. The exhibition also offers educational tours for an increased number of schools, involving up to 2,756 students from fifty-eight institutions, in 2023.
Ecomondo 2024 will put Circular Economy on the green carpet, laying the foundations for a constructive dialogue with all stakeholders to foster a more practicable Sustainability, able to meet the needs of Nature and Humans Beings as integral part of one Planet Earth ecosystem.
Not by chance, Mauro Delle Fratte, Ecomondo Exhibition Manager, stressed that technology and environment must work in full sinergy to monitor the health status of Planet Earth, combat climate change and prevent extreme events. Ecomondo is willing to retain its leading role as a research and innovation hub to improve eco-awareness, education and training. ***
