Monaco City Hall mobilizes to act on the 2024 World Cleanup Day.

Updated: Sep 16

Social actions are essential to achieve consistent targets with reference to the main environmental issues. Since its establishment in September 2018, the World Cleanup Day has been involving an increased number of followers wolrddwide with the sole aim of cleaning up urban or natural spaces from human waste.

The Mairie de Monaco (Monaco City Hall) reaffirms its commitment to combat human waste, by attending the World Clean Up Day, a global initiative which has already mobilized more than 19 million people in 195 countries in 2023. On September the 21st 2024 a themed urban walk to collect local garbage will be organized at 10 a.m. in partnership with the Société Monégasque d'Assainissement (SMA). Everyone can participate for free by registering.

The ecologic will involve various avenues and streets in the vicinity of Port Hercules, notably: Avenue du Port, Rue Saige, Rue Princesse Caroline, Rue Louis Notari, Square Gastaud, Rue Princesse Florestine, Rue Grimaldi, Allée Guillaume Apollinaire, Place des Bougainvilliers, Allée Lazare Sauvaigo and Promenade Honoré II.

The starting line is set at the Marché de la Condamine where equipment (gloves and bags) will be distributed to all participants. The walk will last about an hour ending at A Casa d'i Soci, where all the material collected will be transported and weighed.

At the end, a small refreshment will be offered to all participants.

The world generates over 2 billion tons of municipal solid waste every year and it is expected to raise up to 70% by 2050 (source: World Bank). Thus, it is essential to engage individuals and communities to build up a more conscious and responsible knowledge.

The Monaco City Hall wants to make a contribution towards reducing urban waste, while raising awareness between present and future generations. ***
