He represents the perfect combination of sporting talent and environmental sensitivity. His lake Geneva crossing world record in 2021 - 19 hours and 53 minutes to cover 75 km - drew attention of the international public opinion as well as the determination in reducing his footprint while performing. Noam Yaron, 27-year-old Swiss pro swimmer is about to face a 180 km crossing through the Pelagos Sanctuary at the heart of Northern Mediterranean Sea, from Calvi (the Northern end of Corsica) to Monaco. The challenge, planned for next August, is expected to be a non-stop swim lasting 3 days and 3 nights, without getting out of the water.
Raising awareness to safeguaring Mediterranean ecosystems is the primary focus of this talented entrepreneurial athlete, driving a company on responsible marketing and communication.
For his commitment to the environmental cause, Noam's mission is supported by prior associations devoted to the conservation of marine ecosystems including Monaco-based international agreements, notably: RAMOGE and Pelagos Agreements and ACCOBAMS. Thanks to this close collaboration, Noam and his team is being conveying key messages on the preservation of the corresponding marine areas of interest.
Odyssée Méditerranée (Mediterranean Odyssey) is the name of the awareness campaign whose aim is to make the large audience reflect on the incredible variety of marine species, their extraordinary importance as for biological diversity and its fragility. The Pelagos Sanctuary includes all this. Everyone can therefore act by supporting the initiatives of this special marine protected area extending about 90,000 km2. It is then posssibile to adopt symbolically part of that habitat via personal donations through a dedicated online platform.
The proceeds will be used for the building up of concrete environmental actions selected by experts operating in the scientific field.
Funding sports projects for nature, supporting conservation actions in the Mediterranean Sea and sustaining the management of the newborn platform addressed to develop new projects to safeguard wildlife ecosystems are the three pillars of the project, run by Objectif Environnement. Not by chance, the challenge is partner of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) which has identified six emblematic species in the Mediterranean Basin. Notably: the loggerhead sea turtle, the common dolphin, the monk seal, the mobula ray, the cachalot and the fin whale.
Noam Yaron, sports record man, is willing to engage his talent and social media appeal to raise awareness and work for the preservation of our Planet Earth. Let's stay tuned for the follow-up. ***
