The most popular and historical Monaco's football club, known as Les Rouge et Blanc (The Red and Whites), is becoming increasingly sensitive to environmental issues. After having participated in the innovative project "Ruches Rouges & Blanches" (Red & White Hives) in support of the urban bee communities spread in the Monegasque territory, its attention has now moved to the conservation of the seas.
On Tuesday the 9th July 2024, Thiago Scuro, Director General at AS Monaco, forwarded a cheque of 20,245 € to Cyril Gomez, Deputy Director General of the Oceanographic Institute. This official ceremony resulted from the recent partnership among AS Monaco, the Oceanographic Institute and Kappa® to develop a common goal: to raise awareness about the protection of the ocean and its biodiversity.
Since the 17th April 2023, the three partners have carried out a close collaboration with the aim of launching OCEANO, a unique swimsuit inspired by the colours of the Mediterranean coastline. For each tunic sold, five euros have been donated to the Oceanographic Institute, raising the above-mentioned total amount that will help to raise awareness on ocean conservation.
Cyril Gomez pointed out: «Raising awareness on the protection of the Ocean through a football jersey is a quite impactful and novel approach. Sport is able to create role models and icons which inspire a wide audience. We are proud to have taken on this role alongside AS Monaco. I would like to thank all (partners...) for their support and commitment».
Further initiatives have been promotedd on an annual basis:
Raising awareness among #young #generations, notably 134 young players from the AS Monaco Academy and from French, Belgian and Portuguese clubs, as part of «I Fenuyëti», a special tournament organized by the Rocher club, to raise awareness of key issues of the #marine world.
Beach cleaning operation by the will of the Association des Amis du Musée - AAMOM (Association of Friends of the Museum) and AS Monaco, bringing together volunteers, U16 players from the Academy and other partners of the Institute. Hundreds of cigarette butts, paper packaging and plastic bottles have been collected on May the 30th.
Kids Tour at the Fête du Musée 2023 (2023Museum Festival).
Thiago Scuro, reaffirmed his excitement by highlighting: « We were proud to wear this meaningful shirt and to have the chance to support this unprecedented project together with the Oceanographic Museum. (...) We will continue to monitor and support the Institute’s engagement in this mission ». ***
