Comparing the yacht energy-intensity to the the estimated average fleet in order to make Co2 emission assesment of over-25-metre crafts and reduce their footprint. This is the core mission of SEA Index® a high-tech device, designed by Capenergies, was launched in 2020 within the Superyacht Eco Association (SEAIndex, a non-profit initiative founded by the Yacht Club de Monaco and Credit Suisse. The SEA Index® is spreading rapidly in the Southern region of France where more than half of the world’s yacht and super yacht fleet gathers throughout the year. This represents a significant contribution to local economy, considering that yachting sector brings to the Southern region a relevant economic impact of 1.1 billion euros, with 10,200 jobs, according to a study conducted by Earthcase at the initiative of the regional tourism committee. In particular, the technical ecosystem contributes to 438 million euros and 3,600 jobs, while related tourism generates 663 million euros, involving 6,600 people.

Thanks to this Integrated System (Certification and Index), the involved marinas will be able to reduce yachting nd shipping impacts on marine environment, even in high season. At the same time, the SEA Index® is intensifying its awareness-raising policy among shipowners by involving an increased number of players acting in the yachting industry. ***
