The Sovereign Prince underpins Peace and Sustainability at the Summit for the Future.

What will be the future of the world community of human beings? The Summit of the Future held in New York on the 22nd and the 23rd September 2024. Some of the most influncing leaders and decision makers worldwide convene the United Nations headquarters to debate on crucial and urgent actions to be taken to tackle the triple planetary crisis, following up the pandemic and the ongoing conflicts.

Thus, rebuilding trust through interstate and intergenerational collaboration is crucial for most participants, under the umbrella of Our Common Agenda aimed at further developing the 2030 Agenda, basically through four pillars including solidarity, a new human rights social contract, a better global commons management and a more equitable and sustainable distribution of goods. Th Pact for the Future was adoped at the end of the Summit fostering sustainable development, intercultural and interreligious dialogue as part collective actions.

H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco attended the event proactively, conveying a meaningful mission statement to reinforce Monaco's engagement towards Peace and Sustainability. Please find hereafter an abstract of His official address.

❝This Summit offers us a unique opportunity to evoke the future that we all want for our children and for our planet, the only home we have.
By committing to implement the 56 actions of the Pact, we lay solid foundations for a new partnership for a better, fairer, more equitable and prosperous world for all. In addition, the declaration on future generations provides us with appropriate tools to enable young people to develop their full potential in a healthy and harmonious environment, as the engine and the builder of the future.
Any threat to security, such as conflicts, terrorism or transnational organised crime, affects stability and prevents the development of our society. Peace is our most precious asset. Without it, we cannot access fundamental human rights or make sustainable and effective plans for the benefit of our peoples. Ensuring peace and security is therefore a collective and urgent responsibility. International conflicts are worsened by the environmental crisis. Climate change, loss of biodiversity, pollution of terrestrial and marine ecosystems are all aggravating factors that we must face.
Reconciling Human Beings and Nature is a prerequisite for the creation of a sustainable and peaceful society. (...)
Women’s empowerment is a key lever for social, economic and political progress, ensuring equal access to education, to the economic and decision-making spheres in order to encourage not only the development of each individual but also innovation and growth. (...) ❞.

Moreover, the Sovereign Prince pointed out the crucial role of Sport in facilitating cohesion between peoples and cultures while removing social barriers. He therefore assured that the Principality of Monaco will continue to promote peace and social inclusion through the practice of sports. Monaco is also strongly involved in fighting against the misuse of digital technology by imposing a proper netiquette in full respect of human rights, in view of the adoption of a world pact in the field.

The Sovereign Prince concluded stressing the need to reform institutions' governance to make them more inclusive and suitable to current needs. The international crisis is also producing considerable delays on the 2030 Agenda targets. Novel legal, technological or scientific tools are needed to create more sustainable and effective solutions. Close collaboration and joint commitment are then the ingredients for achieving the goals of a better Future. ***
